Safety Management System

FAA Certificate holders, like Capital Air Express, are required to maintain an approved 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management System (SMS) to constantly evaluate potential concerns and reduce any risks in the operation to maintain the highest possible safety standards. This SMS is constantly evolving and includes a pre-flight risk assessment for each trip, ongoing training, lessons learned and sharing of best practices, and conducting both internal and external audits of our operations to promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout the company.

External Safety Certification

Capital Air Express achieved Wyvern Registered Operator status in 2024.

Backup Traffic and Situational Awareness

All Capital Air Express aircraft are equipped with a ForeFlight Sentry which provides weather, traffic and other flight planning advisories, redundant and independent from the avionics and instruments installed on the aircraft to provide our pilots with a high level of situational awareness, and ultimately a safer flight.

Redundant Satellite Weather Information

Capital Air Express aircraft are equipped with Sirus XM Aviation Satellite Weather, providing a backup to our backup, allowing for an additional resource to keep our passengers out of bad weather and find smooth air for your flight.

Regular Maintenance Inspections

Capital Air Express aircraft are maintained 100% in-house by our sister company Base Leg Maintenance. Our maintenance team has years of experience working on these aircraft and we perform detailed inspections every 50 hours, to include removing the aircraft’s interior and opening all inspections panels every 100 hours of flight to check all systems of the aircraft and perform the preventive maintenance needed to maintain our dispatch reliability at 99%. Proactive maintenance ensures not only a safe aircraft, but a reliable aircraft so you can plan on a successful trip on your schedule!
